About the Role
Rose Associates is seeking a Senior Compliance Specialist to oversee and coordinate affordable housing programs, ensuring residents have access to safe, high-quality homes. This role is crucial for influencing the progress and oversight of these programs, contributing to sustainable and accessible housing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the recertification process, ensuring timeliness and compliance with state and local regulations.
- Approve and verify move-in files adhere to compliance regulations.
- Supervise and guide Affordable Housing Associates.
- Maintain and manage applicant waiting lists.
- Maintain the recertification tracker for timely completion.
- Run Yardi Annual recertification reports and develop action plans for proactive completion.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of utility allowances, LIHTC, and HUD increases.
- Lead the team to meet compliance needs, including recertifications, rent registrations, and lease renewals.
- Conduct weekly team meetings to discuss departmental needs and provide training.
- Ensure accurate lease information, including rates, agency details, apartment specs, and financial terms.
- Prepare subsidy paperwork and input initial leases, renewals, and credits in Yardi.
- Assist the team in interviewing applicants, assessing income requirements, and documenting external income sources.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for government agencies.
- Prepare for state agency or Syndicator audits.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with income restrictions, guidelines, and government housing programs.
- Act as a liaison between ownership, state agencies, and managers.
- Address tenant inquiries promptly and compassionately, building positive resident relationships.
- Adhere to fair-housing laws and regulations.
- Be present on-site to ensure effective communication with tenants, staff, and visitors.
- Perform duties outside normal responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience in affordable housing including LIHTC, local programs and rent stabilization.
- Proficiency in navigating computers and property management software, including Microsoft Office Suite and On-Site.
- Extensive experience with Yardi software, including Rent Café Affordable Housing and managing Section-8 compliance.
- Fundamental math skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and practical experience in data entry.
- Valid NYS real estate license or ability to obtain one within the first 120 days of employment.
- LIHTC certification (must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained).
- Work authorization required.
