About the Role
Spotify’s Personalization Mission connects fans and artists through relevant and meaningful experiences. This role builds foundational backend infrastructure for recommendations, powering personalized experiences for millions of listeners globally.
Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and evolve backend systems supporting personalization and recommendations at Spotify scale.
- Develop infrastructure for efficient retrieval, ranking, and filtering of personalized content.
- Build platform capabilities for candidate generation and representations of content and users.
- Design reliable, scalable, and performant services for high-volume recommendation workloads.
- Partner with engineers across Spotify to build reusable platform solutions.
- Improve the reliability, observability, maintainability, and operational performance of owned systems.
- Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.
Requirements
- Professional experience building and operating backend systems in production.
- Experience with distributed systems, APIs, data-intensive applications, or large-scale service architectures.
- Comfortable working with systems where reliability, latency, and scalability are critical.
- Ability to independently own engineering projects while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Interest in the infrastructure behind recommendation and personalization systems.
- Enjoyment in solving platform-level problems and building systems for other engineering teams.
- Commitment to writing maintainable code, making thoughtful technical decisions, and continuously improving production systems.
