About the Role
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of food preparations and limited cooking tasks, typically in a snack bar operation with a limited menu.
Responsibilities
- Perform grilling or frying of various food items, monitoring cooking and adjusting temperature.
- Measure and weigh ingredients according to recipes for salads, desserts, and juices.
- Prepare toast, salads, salad dressings, and sandwiches.
- Prepare vegetables and fruits for serving.
- Place cooked food in serving dishes for steam carts and food trucks.
- Wash and clean kitchen equipment and work area.
- Maintain cleanliness of refrigerators, grills, equipment, and working areas.
- Collect money, operate a cash register, and prepare cash accountability documentation (may be required).
- Assist in inventory taking (may be required).
- Clean equipment in cooking and dining areas.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, coffee urns, glasses, and flatware.
- Operate mechanical dishwashers, maintaining water and detergent levels.
- Perform proper cleaning of dishwashers, inside and out, and remove calcium deposits as required.
- Adhere to safety regulations and standards, using required safety equipment and observing safe work procedures.
- Promptly report workplace hazards, injuries, occupational illnesses, and property damage to the supervisor.
- Complete work independently as scheduled after initial instructions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year of work experience cooking in a food service facility.
- Experience with common sanitation standards in food handling and serving.
- Ability to follow recipes and combine ingredients for salads and other uncooked dishes.
- Ability to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training.
- Physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods.
- Two years or more of food service experience (preferred).
- Must satisfactorily complete a Federal Background check and all pre-employment requirements.
- Must be registered with the Selective Service System (males born after 12/31/59 and at least 18 years of age, unless exempted).
- Must provide a written statement regarding Selective Service registration status if applicable.
- Applicants may not be employed in the chain of command of their relatives.
- Resume or application must clearly demonstrate required experience and/or education.
- Submit a resume or other written format in English.
- Resume should clearly identify announcement number, title, and pay band.
- Resume should include full name, mailing address, country of citizenship, highest Federal grade or NAF pay band held (if applicable), statement requiring proof of veterans’ preference (DD 214), education, and relevant work experience with details.
