About the Role

Efficient is seeking a finance leader to own finance and accounting end-to-end, shaping the function for future scale. This role involves close collaboration with senior leadership and department heads, and will define the finance function's structure and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own accounting, tax, and compliance functions.
  • Manage month-end close processes with outsourced bookkeepers.
  • Prepare financial books for tax filings and year-end processes.
  • Manage relationships with external CPAs.
  • Oversee the general ledger, revenue recognition, and inventory/cost accounting.
  • Manage payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and collections.
  • Handle R&D tax credits, Section 174 treatment, and sales tax obligations.
  • Manage multi-state tax obligations for a distributed team.
  • Own the operating model, annual budget, and rolling forecast.
  • Develop and improve financial models with better drivers and tighter assumptions.
  • Build a departmental budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
  • Deliver variance analysis to explain financial performance.
  • Forecast cash and manage treasury for a capital-intensive business.
  • Manage banking and insurance relationships.
  • Support future financings, debt facilities, and associated diligence.
  • Own the finance systems roadmap to ensure scalability.
  • Implement financial controls, approval flows, and documentation.
  • Prepare board and investor reporting.
  • Support equity administration, 409A refreshes, and cap table management.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in finance and accounting, with ownership of both a close and a forecast.
  • Experience in a capital-intensive business (semiconductor or similar).
  • Experience in a fast-moving startup, ideally as an early or first finance hire.
  • Proven track record of maturing a finance function.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-finance professionals.
  • Comfort with hands-on work, performing tasks directly.
