About the Role
This recruitment is for current provisional employees within the City and County of San Francisco, San Francisco Unified School District, or San Francisco City College, in the 7120-Buildings And Grounds Maintenance Superintendent classification. The role involves managing and directing personnel in the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and grounds, ensuring environmental health and safety compliance.
Responsibilities
- Manages and coordinates activities and personnel engaged in the general maintenance and repair of all buildings and grounds.
- Plans and directs facility maintenance, renovation and capital improvement projects.
- Assigns duties to permanent craft and building trade mechanics, operating engineers, and maintenance personnel.
- Inspects and certifies satisfactory completion of work done by city shops or private contractors.
- Confers with administrators, department heads, contractors, and others to coordinate maintenance and operational activities.
- Designs, monitors, and maintains building management and maintenance systems.
- Plans and supervises the repair, maintenance, and alteration of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Advises on specific operational or mechanical features of complex equipment and systems.
- Acts on behalf of the administrator or department head during engineering and architectural design projects.
- Coordinates operations in connection with the installation of major machinery, equipment, and systems.
- Supervises all areas of operations including power generation, refrigeration, HVAC, laundry, kitchen equipment, elevators, and repair shops.
- Prepares budgets, proposals, job estimates, and other reports.
- Develops and recommends requirements for personnel, materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Supervises the maintenance and routine care of landscaped areas, pedestrian walks, roadways, and parking areas.
- Directs the removal of hazardous materials.
Requirements
- Current Provisional Employee in Class 7120 who has worked at least 2,080 hours in class 7120.
- Eight (8) years of experience operating, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, pumping, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, and related plant machinery and systems found in large industrial, production, commercial, or institutional buildings.
- Four (4) years of experience must have been in a supervisory capacity directing the operation and maintenance activities of subordinate personnel.
- Possession of a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
- Possession of a valid class “C” Driver license.
