About the Role

This position supports the Animal Care Team by directly supervising Animal Care Specialists, focusing on gold standard animal care. The role involves communicating job expectations, providing training, and ensuring staff accountability to approved procedures.

Responsibilities

Assign work including cleaning, laundry, dog walking, and animal enrichment.
Inspect and evaluate the quality of kennel cleanliness and staff performance.
Participate in Animal Care staff hiring, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Establish, monitor, and measure staff performance goals and conduct evaluations.
Create weekly staff schedules.
Provide ongoing support to staff, assisting with issues in real-time.
Provide hands-on training for new staff to meet or exceed minimum standards.
Interact with staff to foster greatness, empowerment, and teamwork.
Oversee inventory management to ensure adequate supplies.
Review and complete Animal Care team payroll records.
Ensure the accuracy of animal locations in Shelter Buddy.
Review, manage, and respond to staff schedules, overtime, leave requests, and time/attendance reports.
Assume operational responsibilities of the Animal Care Center in the absence of the Care Center Manager.
Provide emergency euthanasia upon completion of training and certification.
Participate in ACC forums, events, supervisor meetings, trainings, and conference calls.
Collaborate with organizational leaders to explore new endeavors, reflect on operations, and problem-solve.
Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
Minimum 6 months of prior animal handling experience required.
Must be forward-thinking and anticipate challenges, responding quickly and completely.
Must be adaptable and receptive to rapidly evolving protocols.
Treats animals and people with respect.
Available to modify schedule as needed.
Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs periodically and nationally for training.
Able to lift and move up to 50lbs and stand for long periods.
Fear Free certification required within 30 days of hire.
