About the Role
As an Assistant Underwriter, you will support the Property Portfolio Underwriting team in delivering underwriting strategy, portfolio objectives, and broker engagement. This role involves underwriting support, portfolio analysis, and stakeholder management to drive profitable growth and maintain strong market relationships. You will collaborate with Underwriters and analytical teams to contribute to pricing, portfolio optimization, reporting, and process improvement, supporting new and renewal business to enhance portfolio insights, boost operational efficiency, and deliver an outstanding broker experience.
Responsibilities
- Support the Property underwriting team and collaborate with analytical functions at Ki.
- Prepare pricing information for Underwriters ahead of facility/binder renewals, leveraging actuarial and machine learning approaches.
- Maintain key broker relationships, liaising with brokers/clients on queries and feeding information back internally.
- Establish and maintain knowledge of internal controls and underwriting procedures, ensuring business operates within the underwriting control framework.
- Manage the triage and engagement on Ki’s renewal portfolio by leading or co-leading weekly pod meetings.
- Ensure broker feedback and requests are recorded and referred to Underwriters for continuous improvements.
- Support regular Portfolio Trading updates and portfolio retros to update senior stakeholders on direction and performance.
- Work on company-wide projects, developing an understanding of development, algorithm, and engineering teams.
Requirements
- ACII, IFOA or equivalent professional qualification, or actively working towards qualification.
- Demonstrated insurance market experience within the London Market, including exposure to underwriting, portfolio analysis, or pricing activities.
- Knowledge of Property insurance products, underwriting principles, and portfolio management concepts.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of market dynamics influencing underwriting performance.
- Understanding of insurance regulatory requirements, governance frameworks, and underwriting controls.
- Strong analytical and numerical capabilities with the ability to interpret data and generate meaningful insights.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience producing management information, reports, and portfolio analysis.
