About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Construction and Business Litigation Paralegal to provide comprehensive paralegal and litigation support to attorneys handling a broad range of construction, commercial, and business litigation matters. Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive paralegal support for construction, commercial, and business litigation matters.
- Assist with all phases of litigation, from inception through trial and post-trial.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain litigation files.
- Prepare and organize pleadings, motions, discovery demands and responses, notices, correspondence, affidavits, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
- Assist with the preparation and service of mechanic's liens, lien enforcement matters, payment claims, and related filings.
- Review and organize construction contracts, subcontracts, change orders, purchase orders, invoices, payment applications, schedules, project records, photographs, plans, specifications, and other construction-related documentation.
- Assist with business and commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, business disputes, partnership and shareholder disputes, and other commercial matters.
- Assist attorneys with document review and discovery, including collecting, organizing, indexing, and summarizing large volumes of documents.
- Prepare discovery materials, including document demands, interrogatories, notices for discovery and inspection, and responses.
- Assist with deposition preparation, including exhibits, chronologies, witness materials, and deposition binders.
- Assist with preparation for hearings, mediations, arbitrations, court appearances, and trials.
- Conduct legal and factual research as directed by attorneys.
- Prepare case chronologies, summaries, timelines, and other materials to assist attorneys.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, insurance representatives, experts, business owners, and other professionals.
- Assist with scheduling depositions, examinations before trial, inspections, conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and other litigation events.
- Maintain accurate calendars and monitor court, statutory, and case-related deadlines.
- Assist with electronic filing and service of court documents.
- Perform docket and case status reviews to ensure files remain current.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with clients and other parties.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness materials, demonstrative evidence, and trial binders.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with sensitive information.
- Perform additional paralegal and administrative duties as needed.
Requirements
- 3+ years of paralegal experience, preferably with significant construction, commercial, business, and/or civil litigation experience.
- Strong knowledge of New York State and New York court litigation procedures preferred.
- Experience with construction contracts, mechanic's liens, payment disputes, construction defects, commercial contracts, business disputes, or related matters strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple matters and competing deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a legal team.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
- Experience with legal document management and case management systems preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic court filing systems preferred.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all client and firm interactions.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and dependable professional.
- Comfortable taking ownership of assigned matters and anticipating attorney needs.
- Experience working directly with attorneys on complex litigation matters.
- Ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities.
