About the Role
The Senior Legal Counsel, Oral Health, is a vital part of Haleon’s Global Commercial Legal team, offering extensive legal support to Global Marketing and R&D. This role serves as the primary legal advisor for the Oral Health global category, providing expert guidance on advertising, marketing, claims, competitor challenges, product development, regulatory matters, compliance, corporate communications, and business transactions. The position reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Head of Legal - Oral Health and collaborates with Trademarks and Patents Senior Counsels, OH, as well as senior leaders across Haleon. The OH Legal team manages all commercial and intellectual property matters for the business, emphasizing collaboration among specialists to best support the category. The role will focus on leading oral health brands like Sensodyne, Parodontax, Corega, and Aquafresh. The Oral Health business is Haleon's top-performing category and has a dedicated UK-based team. This role is the key legal partner for this segment, working with in-market legal teams and Group Legal to ensure effective, compliant, and strategically aligned business operations.
Responsibilities
- Strategically partner with OH category teams to deliver high-quality legal advice and day-to-day support, collaborating with local legal teams and business stakeholders for timely, practical solutions.
- Provide claims support for strategic projects, including attending review meetings and managing approvals.
- Offer practical legal guidance and solutions for local advertising law challenges, balancing risk management with business ambition.
- Deliver contractual support for OH-specific matters, ensuring commercial objectives are met with robust legal protection.
- Lead the creation, maintenance, and rollout of toolkits and trackers to harmonize and streamline legal support for local lawyers and Global Marketing teams.
- Monitor legislative changes relevant to the OH category and proactively share updates to ensure business compliance and readiness.
- Serve as the first point of contact for ad hoc legal support for the OH team.
- Collaborate with the Global Category Legal Lead, OH to ensure consistency in legal approaches across local markets, sharing best practices and lessons learned.
- Advise the business on general corporate affairs and public policy matters related to global brands.
- Build strong relationships with local legal teams and cross-functional partners, promoting knowledge-sharing and supporting Haleon’s legal community to achieve category and business priorities.
Requirements
- Extensive in-house legal experience in Advertising/Marketing, Commercial Transactions, Consumer Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, and/or Consumer Packaged Goods.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new legal concepts.
- Proactively identify issues and develop solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening and translating complex legal concepts into practical business advice.
- Track record of accountability and sound judgment, including taking ownership of projects, prioritizing issues, and achieving business results.
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills.
- Detail-oriented yet pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
- High energy and motivation to learn new areas, stay current with legal developments, influence leadership, and contribute to business success.
