About the Role
Nova Scotia Health is hiring Respiratory Therapists across the province. Respiratory Therapists are responsible for the initiation and management of mechanical ventilation (life support) and advanced airway management. They also deliver and manage oxygen administration, aerosolized medications, and high humidity therapies, and perform and interpret pulmonary diagnostic testing. They act as part of the multidisciplinary health care team to achieve physician goals for patients' cardiorespiratory status, and assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate respiratory care and airway management. There may be other duties such as patient or staff education. Continuous clinical education and support, along with advancement opportunities, are offered.
Responsibilities
- Initiation and management of mechanical ventilation (life support)
- Advanced airway management
- Delivery and management of oxygen and other compressed gasses, aerosolized medications and high humidity therapies
- Perform and interpret related pulmonary diagnostic testing
- Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care and airway management for patients
- Patient or staff education sessions
Requirements
- Upcoming graduate or graduate of an accredited school of respiratory therapy
- Eligible or currently hold/maintain registration with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Respiratory Therapy (NSRRT)
