About the Role

In this diverse and dynamic role, you’ll manage national and international standards committees, drive strategic initiatives, and engage with industry leaders to influence best practices across industry sectors. You’ll be right at the heart of how BSI operates as a National Standards Body, helping to set the guidelines for how others work across the globe. You'll facilitate discussions, build consensus, oversee standards development projects, engage with external stakeholders, and help identify opportunities for new standards that deliver positive outcomes for society. This is not a technical regulatory or auditing role, and previous standards experience is not required. Instead, we're looking for someone with excellent stakeholder engagement, strong project management and facilitation skills to be able lead a diverse portfolio of standards committees and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of standards committees, projects, and programmes across safety, food and healthcare-related sectors.
  • Engage with key stakeholders—including industry experts, government bodies, and trade associations.
  • Drive strategic development, identifying opportunities for new standards and expanding BSI’s influence in the sector.
  • Represent the UK internationally, providing expert input on European and global standardisation efforts.
  • Monitor sector developments and emerging trends to help shape future standards and priorities.
  • Ensure timely project delivery, overseeing workflows and collaborating with internal teams, including Content, Marketing, and Policy.
  • Provide expert guidance to committee chairs, participants, and stakeholders, facilitating discussions and building consensus.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills – comfortable leading groups, hosting workshops, and representing the UK at panels or conferences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – the ability to build credible relationships with a wide range of professionals, drawing out contributions and managing differing opinions constructively.
  • Project management skills – capable of juggling multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proactivity and autonomy – you’ll take ownership of your own portfolio, so a self-starter attitude is key.
  • Agility and curiosity – you’ll be adaptable to change whilst demonstrating a willingness to learn.
