About the Role
The Platform team owns the backend systems for Speechify's text-to-speech products, including APIs, payments, subscriptions, and analytics, serving over 50 million users. The role focuses on making systems more efficient, reliable, and requiring less maintenance over time, with a growth path centered on taking ownership and driving improvements.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own the APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
- Enhance existing services to improve speed, reduce costs, and increase reliability.
- Ensure changes are validated for correctness before deployment and establish checks for ongoing integrity.
- Automate repetitive tasks to free up capacity for more complex challenges.
- Develop reusable solutions and processes for the team.
- Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers utilizing Speechify's platform.
- Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to align backend architecture with product roadmaps.
Requirements
- Proven backend experience in TS/Node.
- Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud.
- Demonstrated ability to delegate work and create opportunities for growth.
- Experience with daily use of AI agents, including their setup, review processes, and limitations.
- Instinct to validate results by checking system internals (logs, database state, requests) rather than summaries.
- Judgment to determine what not to build and clearly articulate the reasoning.
- Preference for being corrected over being right.
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments (preferred).
- Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes (preferred).
