About the Role
The Platform team owns the backend systems for Speechify's text-to-speech products, including APIs, payments, subscriptions, authentication, and analytics, serving over 50 million users. The role focuses on making systems more efficient, reliable, and requiring less maintenance over time, with growth driven by taking on and mastering new scope.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own the APIs for payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
- Enhance existing services to improve speed, reduce cost, and increase reliability.
- Ensure changes are validated before deployment and establish checks for ongoing correctness.
- Automate repetitive tasks to free up capacity for new responsibilities.
- Develop reusable solutions and processes for the team.
- Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers utilizing Speechify's platform.
- Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to align backend architecture with product roadmap.
Requirements
- Proven backend experience in TS/Node.
- Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud.
- Demonstrated ability to delegate work and create opportunities for growth.
- Experience with daily use of AI agents, including their setup, review processes, and limitations.
- Instinct to validate results by checking system state (logs, database, requests) directly.
- Judgment to determine what not to build and clearly articulate reasons for dropping features.
- Preference for being corrected over being right.
- Preferred: Docker and containerized deployments.
- Preferred: Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes.
