About the Role

This role focuses on providing leadership within the S&T market in San Francisco, driving business development, client engagement, and team leadership. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the Market Business Plan, integrating design services, managing processes, and ensuring financial performance. A key aspect of this role is acting as a brand ambassador, championing Living-Centered Design and the firm's purpose to help people continuously flourish.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new business opportunities with new and current client partners to achieve top-line targets, supporting a minimum 10% growth of the practice year over year.
  • Lead, engage, and partner with clients at the highest levels on billable project-specific work.
  • Advance innovative solutions that differentiate the firm and foster strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Act as a leading voice for the market externally and internally through speaking events, writing, and other promotional activities.
  • Engage in activities to advance the firm, region, market, and office.
  • Mentor market team members and recruit talented candidates.
  • Advance strategic initiatives and client pursuit discussions and strategies.
  • Lead the development of a market business plan outlining strategies for client engagement, market differentiation, and team building.
  • Participate in ways to improve the practice globally.
  • Identify and actively pursue new target clients and nurture existing client relationships.
  • Promote the full range of integrated design services and support the advancement of Living-Centered Design.
  • Achieve a personal goal of $3.0M per year in net signed fees.
  • Lead by example on select client project opportunities.
  • Serve as a client leader and/or subject matter expert where appropriate.
  • Identify future market trends and opportunities for growth.
  • Demonstrate a high level of market knowledge, including 'Best Practices,' and evidence-based and research-based design.
  • Collaborate to ensure business plan bottom-line initiatives are successfully implemented.
  • Achieve a minimum of 10% firm profitability level for the market each year.
  • Assess, mentor, coach, and recruit staff to build a high-performance team and develop future leaders.
  • Take ownership for the growth of a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Assist in establishing an environment that encourages leadership, integrity, humility, respect, responsibility, collaboration, experimentation, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
  • Devote 35% of time to advancing brand and developing new business opportunities.
  • Devote 45% of time to engaging and partnering with clients on billable project work.
  • Devote 10% of time to market leadership, strategy development, market intelligence, business practice support, recruiting, and staff growth/development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
  • Current Registration/Licensure in Architecture, Interior Design or Engineering preferred.
  • 12 years minimum experience with a proven track record of strategic growth in the S&T market, market and team leadership, and business development success.
  • Additional certifications and/or training relevant to this role are preferred.
  • Strong presentation skills are essential.
  • Exceptional client and people leadership skills required.
  • Professional acumen and maturity demonstrated by the ability to communicate authentically and respectfully is essential.
  • Strong business acumen and proven ability to create and execute strategy is needed.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop high-performing, accountable teams.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sound judgment and a sound approach regarding risk management and mitigation.
  • Some travel required.
