About the Role
EDC helps Canadian businesses succeed abroad by providing financial tools and expertise to explore new markets and reduce risks, aiming to build a better Canada and world through trade. The Climate and Sustainable Finance team is seeking a Senior Sustainability Advisor to contribute to its growth, implement EDC's climate action plan, and advance sustainable finance efforts.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the implementation of the climate action plan through research, analysis, expert advice, and inter-team coordination and engagement.
- Engage with various organizational teams to advance climate and sustainable finance initiatives.
- Support the advancement of EDC's sustainable finance and climate initiatives, including ideation for products and engagement tactics, and direct engagement with business lines to integrate climate finance into EDC practices.
- Support the advancement of EDC's portfolio climate risk management.
- Support the advancement of EDC client climate capacity-building efforts, including ideation for collaboration and value creation opportunities, and implementation.
- Liaise with external consultants and coordinate their efforts to ensure they meet EDC requirements.
- Monitor emerging ESG trends, conduct research, perform analysis, and translate findings into actionable deliverables supporting the climate action plan.
- Work with the sector team to bring sustainable finance closer to the front line and clients.
- Seek opportunities to further integrate climate into portfolio risk management.
- Work with clients to build their climate-related capabilities.
- Leverage applied knowledge of climate and sustainable finance to keep efforts current.
- Engage closely with all of EDC's business lines and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate remarkable communication skills and recognized technical expertise to mobilize and consult business lines.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in environmental studies, law, engineering, business, or science (including climate change science).
- At least seven to eight years of experience in financial services or the sustainability sector.
- Demonstrated experience at the intersection of climate change and financial services (applied knowledge of climate science).
- Experience in program development or implementation, or related training.
- Ability to adapt and revise project steps and objectives for successful advancement.
- Strong communication skills (written, oral, presentations), including effective administrative writing.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
