About the Role
Data at Atom powers customer-facing products that predict exam outcomes, personalize learning, and help teachers focus their efforts. You will be a key specialist in data engineering, owning the collection, transformation, modeling, and availability of data. Your work will directly contribute to data-powered product features and help other teams use data effectively.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve data foundations for customer-facing products, including predictive features, adaptive learning, and assessment insights.
- Own the design, development, and improvement of reliable, scalable data pipelines and models.
- Shape the technical direction of the data platform and improve data flow between application, warehouse, and product surfaces.
- Build clean, well-tested, and reusable solutions using Python, SQL, and dbt.
- Improve data quality, observability, and reliability for team trust.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, commercial teams, and educational experts to understand problems, shape solutions, and measure impact.
- Make data easier for others to use by creating clear models, tooling, and patterns for self-service.
- Utilize AI tools and agents for research, prototyping, investigation, and faster solutions.
- Contribute beyond the data layer to solve problems effectively, including product features, APIs, internal tools, or automation.
- Review code, share expertise, and help raise the standard of data engineering.
- Mentor other engineers and develop data capability across the engineering team.
Requirements

- Experience with cloud data warehouses, orchestration tools, and transformation frameworks.
- Take end-to-end ownership of problems from discovery through implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Turn ambiguous requirements into practical solutions, balancing speed, quality, and scalability.
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues, making complex data problems understandable.
- Confidently use AI tools and agents for learning, investigation, and building.
- Be comfortable working beyond a narrowly defined specialism when required.

Experience Level
- Significant experience designing, building, maintaining and scaling production data pipelines and platforms
