About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented, and proactive Operational Tax Senior Manager to join our Tax team and support our wider Finance and Product teams. This role involves leading all taxes that affect our customers and their tax reporting across the UK and Europe, reporting to the Tax Governance Lead. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with our obligations and simplifying tax compliance for our customers, playing a key part in our tax strategy as we launch new products and enter new markets.
Responsibilities
- Own operational tax, acting as Monzo's subject matter expert and advising the business on meeting obligations during growth and market expansion.
- Lead compliance and controls for operational tax processes across jurisdictions, including BBSI, ISA reporting, FATCA and CRS, Corporate Criminal Offence and CT61s, and their international equivalents.
- Develop new processes and controls to adapt to evolving products and markets.
- Partner with Product and local market teams to integrate tax considerations into product design from the outset.
- Build appropriate reporting and controls, and stress-test edge cases for new products.
- Stay informed about tax laws, regulations, and case law in the UK and EU, translating changes into actionable steps for Monzo.
- Collaborate with Product, Financial Crime, Engineering, Legal, EU Next Markets, and Finance teams to address operational tax-related issues and support business initiatives.
Requirements
- Qualified accountant and/or qualified tax advisor, or qualified by significant experience.
- Significant in-house experience working in Operational Tax.
- Comfortable working relatively autonomously.
- Energetic and hands-on approach to work.
- Keen eye for detail and methodical approach to processes.
- Excitement about Monzo's mission and work.
