About the Role
At kW Mission Critical Engineering, a part of WSP USA, we design the power and cooling systems for data centers, ensuring they remain operational 24/7. You will collaborate with internal and external engineers, architects, and vendors, gaining invaluable experience and seeing your designs built on-site for major companies. Responsibilities
- Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and reports for project development, design, and construction.
- Perform basic professional mechanical engineering work, including research and inspections of sites, equipment, and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with rules, standards, and permits.
- Conduct routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies for equipment and systems.
- Verify site characteristics and provide basic technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
- Generate accurate documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
- Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
- Familiarity with relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, and technology.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, CAM).
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements, potentially extending beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Engineer in Training Certification (Preferred).
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and engineering discipline (Preferred).
- Membership and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations (Preferred).
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
