About the Role

You will be joining our expanding Buildings Technology Systems team as a Smart Building & System Integration Technical Specialist. Your responsibilities will include the design, project management, and delivery of projects from inception through to client handover. The Building Technology Systems (BTS) team provides Smart, ICT, Audio Visual & System Integration design, and we are seeking an Associate level Engineer with a background in technical delivery of smart building system integration.

Responsibilities

Design, project management, and delivery of projects from inception through to client handover.
Lead from concept stage through to detailed design, managing technology design & systems integration design activities on multi-disciplinary design projects in coordination with Architects, Engineers, and specialist consultants.
Liaise with clients and stakeholders to understand, develop, and interpret their requirements from concept stage through to detailed design.
Collaborate across WSP with specialists in areas like Security, Lighting, ICT, VT, BMS, AV to develop holistic and comprehensive Smart Buildings solutions.
Create future-ready buildings to deliver great user experiences, innovating the building landscape.
Contribute to bids and proposals; Assist in identifying opportunities within existing or new clients and support teams in securing follow‑on work.
Provide clear and visible technical leadership for building technology workstreams, offering advice and direction to project teams and junior colleagues.
Review reports and designs to evaluate approaches and technical designs against smart building expectations.
Clearly document reviews, risk assessments, and issue resolution.

Requirements

Demonstrate interest in emerging technologies in the built environment, evidenced through practical application, research or professional experience and have the ability to articulate potential applications, innovations and impacts.
Experience in Smart Building Technology design and project delivery of medium to large building projects.
Ability to develop, review and specify solution and solutions architectures that integrate building systems with enterprise IT infrastructure, interoperability, and data exchange considering cybersecurity and operational resilience.
Experience developing systems integration strategies that bridge traditional building automation with modern IoT, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems.
Ability to develop of digital strategies centered around Smart buildings, including integration approaches, solution review, technical specifications, and architecture topologies.
Proven ability to engage with clients, working groups, designers, and vendors to develop smart building solutions that meet client and governance criteria.
Understanding of design and specification and implementation of building systems technologies, documenting formal requirements for approval and development, and roadmaps to implementation.
Capability to produce detailed design and performance specification, subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
Understanding of cybersecurity considerations for smart building implementations.
Demonstrated understanding of emerging AI solutions relevant to the built environment, with the ability to articulate potential application and practical use cases.
Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively with other members of the project team, stakeholders & clients.
A detailed understanding of specialist building systems including MEP, BMS, fire safety, lighting and security systems, the ICT infrastructure aspects of deploying modern smart buildings.
In depth knowledge of smart building rating systems such as SmartScore, Smart Building certification; Awareness of relevant industry accredited certification such as WELL, LEED, NABERS, BREAAM, etc.
CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) / IET / Engineering Council accredited or specific experience that will lead to Chartership.
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
Candidates must be capable of achieving SC-level UK security clearance.
