About the Role
Salesforce is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to enhance Slack's iOS experience. This role involves rapid prototyping in code at the intersection of design and engineering, exploring new mobile possibilities, and elevating design team capabilities through modern prototyping practices.
Responsibilities
- Explore nascent interaction and device capability concepts by prototyping directly in code.
- Build a deep understanding of iOS platform capabilities (WidgetKit, App Intents, Live Activities, Shortcuts, etc.).
- Act as a skill multiplier for the design organization by conducting training and documenting prototyping workflows.
- Create reusable patterns for interactions and prototyping tooling.
- Partner with designers and engineers to inject technical and craft expertise.
- Use data and shipped-feature learnings to inform prototyping tools and documentation.
Requirements
- 8+ years at the intersection of product design and iOS engineering.
- Deep hands-on fluency in Swift/SwiftUI and Objective-C.
- Track record of building working prototypes in code to explore ambiguous concepts.
- Deep, current knowledge of iOS platform standards and capabilities (Apple HIG, native frameworks).
- Experience creating tools, documentation, or training for designers and engineers.
- Strong collaboration instincts and proactive communication.
- Familiarity with agentic/AI-assisted coding tools.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to evangelize new practices.
