About the Role
Platform Engineering provides the foundations that enable Adyen to grow reliably by delivering shared components that help teams build secure, reliable, and high-performing products and services. The Application Services team develops platform-wide, business-agnostic capabilities such as secret management, service discovery, and feature flagging, addressing company-wide challenges like modernizing infrastructure and raising security standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of foundational services used by engineering teams across Adyen
- Drive complex, cross-team initiatives from problem discovery through production adoption
- Partner with product managers and engineers to identify shared platform needs and define priorities
- Design and evolve APIs, including compatibility, migration, and adoption strategies
- Architect resilient solutions spanning multiple data centers
- Own the deployment, observability, operation, and continuous improvement of live services
- Gather and use developer feedback to improve the reliability, usability, and adoption of platform services
- Mentor engineers and raise technical standards within the team
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend software development experience
- Proficiency in Java and a strong understanding of the JVM
- Experience working with Postgres or similar relational databases
- Experience with CI/CD, observability, performance analysis, and incident response
- Ability to lead ambiguous technical initiatives involving multiple teams
- Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems
- A product-oriented approach to software development
- Willingness to operate, deploy, and troubleshoot applications in a live production environment
