About the Role
The data engineer contributes to the delivery of high-quality data, including ingestion, maintenance, optimizations, and solutions to support data operations. Working across AWS and GCP, you will be exposed to data ingestion, transformation, and warehousing. You will implement solutions to appropriate standards and best practices, working with guidance from senior engineers, and actively participate in agile processes.
Responsibilities
- Create new data pipelines and maintain/debug existing data pipelines that pull data from various source systems.
- Adopt and contribute to best practices for software development and cloud architecture within a wider engineering team.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues with guidance from senior engineers, communicating status updates to key stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes.
- Develop appropriate testing and monitoring, and provide handover and technical escalation support.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably in financial services, Fintech, or similar industries.
- Experience in data warehouse technology (GCP Big Query preferable).
- Experience with Cloud Messaging, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Serverless SQL in either AWS or GCP.
- Experience conducting capacity planning, performance monitoring, and tuning of relational databases.
- Experience performing backup and recovery of corporate databases.
- Experience contributing to the development of policies and procedures governing corporate database operations.
- Experience working in a dynamic environment with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new methodologies and technologies.
- Proficiency in SQL and an object-oriented language (Python and/or Java preferred).
- Data modeling and data analysis experience.
