About the Role
The EMEA Field CTO is DX's primary strategist, storyteller, and technical expert for the EMEA market, translating research into workshops, coaching, and demonstrations to win business and build DX's reputation. This role has direct commercial accountability, managing a named account portfolio and participating in active deals, measured on content contribution and revenue influence.
Responsibilities
- Engage with VP, CTO, and Director-level decision makers through workshops, briefings, and account-specific talks.
- Own a portfolio of 15+ named EMEA accounts per half, including active opportunities and customers.
- Advance deals by winning executive-level alignment through 1:1s, briefings, presentations, or workshops.
- Partner with AEs to engage in deals or be brought into deals as needed.
- Host or co-host 2–4 events per quarter in EMEA for VP/CTO-level leaders, focusing on relationship building.
- Deliver 1–2 internal enablement sessions per quarter for DX reps in EMEA.
- Participate in Atlassian's executive briefing council as an expert.
- Surface customer blockers, feature gaps, and competitive intelligence to the DX product team.
- Contribute to a quarterly Field CTO VOC report summarizing themes from customer conversations.
- Package research into field-ready assets like workshops, talks, and executive coaching.
- Maintain deep product demo fluency to connect research with product capabilities.
- Represent DX in media and analyst conversations, including interviews and discussions on new research.
- Participate in 2 or more external podcasts per quarter.
- Speak at 6 or more conferences a year across EMEA.
- Host at least 1 webinar per quarter on topics such as measuring developer productivity and driving AI ROI.
- Produce at least 3 small research ships per quarter or be the lead author on 1 large ship.
- Align all research contributions to the quarterly research roadmap.
Requirements
- Led engineering organizations or platform/developer experience teams at scale (e.g., VP of Engineering, Head of Platform).
- Made significant decisions regarding developer productivity, tooling, and team design.
- Known and respected by senior engineering leaders (VPs of Engineering, CTOs at Fortune 500 companies).
- Experience presenting on stages, panels, podcasts, or in rooms with senior engineering leaders.
- Ability to provide sharp, credible commentary on data and research.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Opinionated but intellectually honest, willing to update views based on evidence.
- Desire to shape industry thinking on developer productivity and AI.
- Ability to combine real-world experience with data to produce actionable guidance.
- Willingness to be a trusted advisor for Fortune 500 engineering leaders.
- Experience working alongside world-class researchers.
- Primary focus on Western Europe, UK, and Nordics; Southern Europe included but not a heavy focus.
- English fluency required.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency (German, French, or a Nordic language) is preferred.
- Moderate to high travel (30–40%) across EMEA.
