About the Role
As Australia's largest specialist in personal injury claims management, EML focuses on helping people return to work safely and confidently after a workplace incident. We are seeking in-house Legal Specialists to manage and resolve claims involving litigation, leveraging legal expertise and workers compensation knowledge. This role offers the opportunity to apply technical expertise within a collaborative environment where your work has genuine purpose and impact, combining legal excellence with meaningful outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and managing Work Injury Damages (WID) claims
- Overseeing statutory litigation matters within the Personal Injury Commission
- Managing other legally complex claims
- Undertaking legal project work
- Providing expert legal guidance and support to EML’s Nominal Insurer claims teams and policy holders
- Reporting to the Legal Manager, contributing to EML’s performance targets and organisational objectives
- Delivering a high standard of service to stakeholders
- Provide timely, accurate legal advice to support the claims team on legislative, regulatory and policy matters relating to workers’ compensation
- Partner closely with external legal panel providers to ensure high-quality advice and the development of effective litigation strategies
- Represent EML in legal proceedings alongside external legal representatives
- Contribute to strategic portfolio reviews, including presenting to employers on key legal principles and individual claim matters
- Monitor and interpret emerging case law and precedents impacting claims management, premiums and the broader scheme
Requirements
- 1–3 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally within a Workers Compensation practice managing Work Injury Damages (WID) and statutory workers compensation matters
- Proven experience in a comparable legal role operating within a fast-paced, commercially focused environment
