About the Role
The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining a high technical aptitude of automated systems hardware and software, providing on-shift automation support, troubleshooting systems, coordinating project work, and maintaining equipment functionality. This role is key to ensuring equipment reliability for safe, compliant, and efficient production with minimal downtime.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain all machinery automation systems.
- Execute automation and electrical preventative maintenance, inspection, and corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot automated system problems and perform necessary repairs.
- Update and troubleshoot recipes systems.
- Perform equipment breakdown analysis related to electrical and automation issues and implement solutions.
- Recommend improvements and modifications to production machines.
- Document completed work and findings using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Interact with peers and management for continuous improvement of machinery operations.
- Work within a team environment to resolve issues and improve performance.
- Execute maintenance troubleshooting and equipment improvements by interpreting automation programs, electrical schematics, blueprints, and operation manuals.
- Share knowledge of equipment maintenance best practices through work instructions and training.
- Follow safety procedures, LOTO, job safety analysis (JSA), and safe work permits.
- Execute maintenance routines following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and quality compliance.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Certification from a trade school in Electrical, Computer Operations, or Automation, or a degree in a maintenance-related field.
- Alternatively, relevant military experience or at least two years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, particularly with PLCs, VFDs, and other automated systems.
- Preferred Experience of 2 to 5 years of recent and consistent experience in maintaining advanced electrical systems and/or automation systems.
- Experience working with Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider PLCs, VFDs, and other industrial automation equipment is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with computer architecture and its integration into electrical systems is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, robots, AC motor drives, servodrives, vision systems, sensors, industrial printer systems, and electronic components.
- Knowledge of PLC ladder logic, Scada system, and historian software.
- Ability to perform Automation Network troubleshooting with TC/IP and Profibus.
- Knowledge in using hand tools, electrical meters, and testing equipment.
- Ability to interpret electrical prints and schematics and produce as-built drawings.
- Ability to perform electrical routine service, setup, adjustment, and repairs of manufacturing mixers, high-speed packaging lines, and palletizer systems.
- Strong working knowledge of job site safety, including hazard evaluation and job safety analysis, with emphasis on electrical hazards and proper safety procedures (handling low to high voltage up to 480 VAC).
- Technical understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to review and maintain facility-related GMP documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

- $50,391 to $69,287.90 plus a 10% shift differential and a 5% performance bonus
