About the Role
Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission by delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online businesses. The Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering (CHSE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are seeking a Senior Platform Systems Engineer passionate about customer-focused solutions to envision and implement future technical solutions for managing and optimizing cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with architecture, silicon engineering, firmware, hardware design, hardware validation, OS, manufacturing, and customer teams to build state-of-the-art AI, compute, storage, networking, and accelerator hardware solutions.
- Lead Platforms Debug to address issues encountered during the Product Development Phase.
- Plan and lead System debug activities, working with cross-organization teams in defining pre-Silicon platform bring up, test, and validation execution.
- Own and drive the platform bring up with SOC, test, and validation plans & execution.
- Perform NUDD (new, unique, different, and difficult) technology and feature analysis, providing risk assessment and mitigations.
- Perform hands-on debugging of critical platform-level issues.
- Develop innovative debugging methodologies for the triage and resolution of issues in remote data centers.
- Drive technical requirements, ensuring the solution is flexible and scalable across the full (HW/FW/SW) stack.
- Enable platform and solution-level discussions, influencing product architecture, and delivering to product goals across quality, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate with internal, external, and open-source partners to seamlessly onboard innovative technologies.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Skills
- System (compute and/or accelerator) level design and/or implementation across the hardware development lifecycle.
- Hardware, firmware, management firmware, and/or software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system.
- Leading validation strategies and debugging complex hardware technologies.
- Assessing technical risks, driving solutions, and impact assessment.
- Bringing up, integrating, and deploying new hardware technology.
- Datacenters & operations at scale.
- Leading Platforms Debug Forums to address issues encountered during the Product Development Phase.

- USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year (US)
- USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)
