About the Role
We are seeking a Robot Learning Engineer to own our internal training capabilities. This role involves creating our training pipeline, testing sensors, defining data collection strategies, evaluating policies, and assisting customers with data integration. You will have significant autonomy and access to existing resources, including a robot arm and hand-tracking capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Build our data collection, training, and inference pipeline on off-the-shelf hardware integrated with Haptica.
- Train imitation learning policies (ACT, diffusion policy) with and without tactile data on tasks where touch is critical.
- Define evaluation metrics and benchmark tasks to quantify the impact of our data.
- Extend data collection from teleoperation to egocentric glove data, integrating hand tracking and testing retargeting.
- Influence hardware decisions based on sensing requirements for learning.
- Integrate Haptica into customers' data collection and teleoperation setups.
- Share findings through demo videos, writeups, and papers with academic collaborators.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in robotics, CS, EE, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Extensive experience in production-level software and ML engineering best practices.
- Experience with modern deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in running imitation learning (diffusion policy, ACT, or similar) from data collection to deployment.
- Comfort working with hardware, including cameras, IMUs, calibration, and time synchronization.
- Comfort with ambiguity and building from scratch.
- Experience with dexterous manipulation, multi-fingered hands, or retargeting (Bonus).
- Passion for tactile sensing with relevant research or experience (Bonus).
- Experience taking egocentric or wearable data through to a trained policy (Bonus).
- Strong publication record in a relevant field (Bonus).
- Prior work on humanoids or highly dexterous robotic platforms (Bonus).
