About the Role
Boom is growing its engineering team following a Series A funding round to meet the demands of its B2B partners and B2C users. The roadmap includes new consumer and platform products, deeper PMS integrations, and an agentic operational layer for residential real estate. Engineers will build systems that handle sensitive credit, identity, income, and payment data, working closely with leadership and product teams in a practical, product-focused engineering culture.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain user-facing products and backend systems.
- Contribute to and evolve core backend architecture, focusing on scalability and performance.
- Own services in production, including observability, on-call, and debugging.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and leadership to align technical solutions with business needs.
- Drive engineering practice through code review, testing, and documentation.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional web development experience.
- Strong backend development skills, with comfort across the full stack.
- Experience with Ruby, or another backend language with the ability to quickly learn the stack.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, including OAuth flows, webhooks, rate limits, and idempotency.
- Proven track record of owning services in production, with experience in observability, on-call rotations, and incident debugging.
- Experience using AI coding agents in daily work and shipping real code with them.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and explain technical concepts clearly.
- Comfort setting direction in an early-stage environment with shifting priorities and incomplete context.
- Empathy for end users, including low-to-moderate-income renters, and a desire to build impactful products.
