About the Role
Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries like food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, scalable, and productive. This work requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute scenario cases at proving grounds, translating specifications into test procedures, setting up targets, and executing runs.
- Conduct scenario cases on public roads with safety drivers, managing route selection, in-vehicle protocols, and data recording.
- Own the risk assessment for testing, including site layout, personnel safety, exclusion zones, and emergency provisions.
- Manage instrumentation and ground truth, including ego positioning, target tracking, timing synchronization, and data acquisition.
- Define tolerance bands, determine the number of valid runs required, and reject invalid runs with documented reasons.
- Write test reports suitable for citation by safety case engineers, detailing procedures, conditions, criteria, outcomes, and deviations.
- Oversee proving ground scheduling, test equipment calibration, and relationships with third-party test services.
- Report on testability issues, necessary adaptations, and venue limitations.
- Utilize AI tooling to automate procedure drafting, validity checking, and report generation.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on vehicle test engineering, ADAS/AV testing, proving ground operations, or OEM/Tier 1 vehicle testing experience.
- Hands-on experience with instrumented targets (soft cars, pedestrian/cyclist targets), driving robots, RTK/GNSS ground truth, timing synchronization, and data acquisition.
- Experience executing published test procedures (e.g., Euro NCAP, NHTSA crash-avoidance) and adapting them for human-driven vehicles.
- Demonstrated rigor in rejecting invalid test runs and documenting reasons.
- Proven safety-of-test judgment, including experience stopping or refusing to start tests.
- Data analysis ability in Python or similar, with experience reducing acquisition data and producing defensible results.
- Comfort using AI tooling for automation with a clear understanding of its limitations.
- Clear written communication skills for creating auditable reports.
- Willingness to travel regularly to proving grounds and test routes.
- Willingness to work hours dictated by test windows and weather conditions.
