About the Role
Platform Engineering at Numeric focuses on building a shared platform to enhance the productivity of engineers and AI agents. This role specifically addresses the developer infrastructure, including environments, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, security, and internal tooling, aiming to streamline the process from idea to deployment.
Responsibilities
- Own deployment processes, including serialized, gated deploys, automated schema migrations with rollback, and trusted staging to production promotion.
- Develop reliable and fast local and remote development environments, as well as sandboxes and preview/review environments.
- Contribute to Agent-First development, including MCP gateways, governance, cost management, and foundation model selection.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Spacelift/OpenTofu, manage drift remediation, consolidate cloud providers, and establish easy-to-follow IaC standards.
- Define and enforce repository standards, including linting, testing hierarchy, ownership manifests, and an internal developer portal.
- Establish observability foundations, including local tracing, logging, metrics, Datadog cost management, incident management, and status pages.
- Enhance security and access controls, including unified secrets/config management, SSO, IAM scoping, ECR scanning, audit logging, and vulnerability management.
- Develop and maintain Numeric Labs, a platform for shipping internal tools with integrated authentication, hosting, and observability.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time spent on infrastructure, platform, or developer productivity.
- Proficiency in AWS, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/OpenTofu or similar), CI/CD systems, and Linux/container fundamentals.
- Strong general-purpose programming skills, primarily in TypeScript and Python.
- Experience with tools like Spacelift / Atlantis, Datadog / Firetiger / Chronosphere, or GitHub Actions / Buildkite.
- Experience running incident management, defining SLAs, and maintaining site uptime.
- Experience supporting non-engineer contributors, such as support engineers shipping fixes with AI tools.
