About the Role
Platform Engineering at Numeric focuses on building a shared platform to enhance the productivity of engineers and AI agents. This role specifically addresses the developer infrastructure, including environments, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, security, and internal tooling, aiming to streamline the process from idea to deployment.
Responsibilities
- Own pieces of the roadmap end to end, focusing on deployment processes, environments, agent-first development, infrastructure-as-code, repo standards, observability foundations, security, and AI internal tools hosting.
- Develop a serialized, gated deployment process across services with automated schema migrations and rollback.
- Ensure reliable and fast local and remote development environments, including sandboxes and preview/review environments.
- Implement agent-first development practices, including MCP gateways, governance, cost management, and foundation model selection.
- Manage infrastructure-as-code using Spacelift/OpenTofu, remediate drift, and consolidate cloud environments.
- Establish repository standards, ownership manifests, and an internal developer portal.
- Build observability foundations for local tracing, logging, and metrics, and improve Datadog cost management and incident management maturity.
- Implement unified secrets/config management, SSO, scoped IAM, ECR scanning, audit logging, and vulnerability management.
- Develop Numeric Labs, a platform for shipping internal tools with integrated authentication, hosting, and observability.
Requirements
- Technically deep in infrastructure (AWS, containers/ECS, networking, IaC) and pragmatic in approach.
- Possess a product builder's instinct for developer experience, focusing on sane defaults and intuitive tooling.
- Skilled in discovering user needs through direct interaction, pairing with engineers, and observing onboarding processes.
- Comfortable building in-house solutions when appropriate and clearly justifying the decision.
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time spent on infrastructure, platform, or developer productivity.
- Proficient with AWS, IaC (Terraform/OpenTofu or similar), CI/CD systems, and Linux/container fundamentals.
- Strong general-purpose programming skills, primarily in TypeScript and Python.
