About the Role

Numeric is building a modern platform for accounting and finance, focusing on live, rich, and trustworthy data. The Data Infrastructure team is responsible for the financial data plane, including a lakehouse that ingests, transforms, and serves data for accounting modules, reporting, and AI agents. This role involves end-to-end ownership of a slice of the architecture, with significant investment expected in this layer.

Responsibilities

Ingest data at scale from various API sources, file-based inboxes, and database replication, making new source additions cost-effective.
Implement data contracts and typed source data to enforce schemas at boundaries and make datasets discoverable.
Manage Data Lakehouse schema through a declare, codegen, and apply pipeline for consistent schema application across tenants.
Ensure data security by scoping queries, building ACLs, and maintaining customer trust.
Develop batch processing and event-driven accounting systems that decouple event processing from downstream failures and provide clear operational insights.
Build data correctness and observability features, including completeness checks, ingestion health monitoring, and links from ledger entries to raw events.
Optimize reporting scalability through query patterns and materializations to support drill-downs from high-level P&L to individual transactions.

Requirements

3+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time on data-intensive systems.
Strong SQL skills and a working understanding of columnar stores, partitioning, and query performance.
Experience with a modern transformation/orchestration stack (e.g., SQLMesh, dbt, Dagster, Airflow).
Strong general-purpose programming skills (primarily TypeScript, with Python).
Treat auditability and 'fail early, fail explicitly' as design constraints.
Comfortable across the stack: TypeScript services, SQL (ClickHouse and Postgres), and transformation tooling (SQLMesh or dbt).
Ability to work closely with consumers of data (accounting module engineers, reporting team, agents) and shape their interfaces.
Desire to understand accounting data concepts (source data, completeness, close) and apply that knowledge to development.
