About the Role
Join a small, fast-moving team at the intersection of biology, hardware, AI, and IoT. You will work directly on training the core foundation model, driving machine learning projects from idea to production end-to-end, and building scalable systems and practices. This is a senior, individually-contributing role reporting to the Head of AI & ML.
Responsibilities
- Own transformer training, including model architecture, data curation, and training strategies.
- Manage the full lifecycle of models to production.
- Evaluate the core model by building and refining evaluations to measure progress.
- Develop robust, repeatable model lifecycle systems for rapid iteration.
Requirements
- Experience building and training transformer models from scratch, including concrete details on data, architecture, and training stability.
- Approximately 3+ years of hands-on transformer-specific experience, with 5-10 years of overall ML/engineering experience.
- Shipped or maintained ML systems in a practical capacity.
- Comfortable driving projects end-to-end, from data collection through evaluation, with a small team.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including building and maintaining real training and evaluation infrastructure.
- Technical or scientific depth.
- Comfortable being one of a very small number of people responsible for a company's core model.
- Experience with biological, environmental, or other scientific data is a strong plus.
