About the Role

The Assistant Cafe Manager plays a crucial role in the overall success and operational excellence of the café, acting as a pivotal leader in delivering world-class service. You will ensure adherence to our partner’s culture and guidelines, local Health Department regulations, and Bon Appétit’s unwavering standards for food quality, freshness, and presentation. Working closely alongside the Cafe Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the café, with a particular focus on the development, and performance management of our valued team members. You will be instrumental in motivating and directing every associate to achieve operational objectives, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction and fostering a strong, collaborative relationship with our clients. As the Assistant Cafe Manager, you will set the standard for responsible practices, ensuring the well-being of you, our guests and our valued team members. Responsibilities

  • Rigorously manage safety standards, including meticulous allergen management, to ensure guest well-being and total operational compliance.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings, participate in rigorous safety inspections, and ensure that all daily operations meet or exceed corporate safety benchmarks.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent expectation of hospitality that is warm, inclusive, and genuinely engages our guests.
  • Actively participate in the selection of team members and lead the ongoing training and professional development of the front-of-house staff.
  • Monitor and manage financial and budgetary responsibilities, ensuring that operational standards are met while maintaining fiscal efficiency.
  • Meet all timelines for payroll, service reports, accounts receivable, and human resources documentation as required.
  • Proficiently operate web-based ordering systems, process customer requests, manage menu updates.
  • Maintain a high level of communication and partnership with the Cafe Manager and client stakeholders to ensure the cafe's objectives are consistently met.

Requirements

  • Associates degree is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and enhance a culture focused on Food and Workplace Safety.
  • A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a similar high-volume, premium food service or hospitality environment.
  • Prior experience in a restaurant, café, hotel, or high-end events environment is a significant plus.
  • Proven ability to integrate diverse perspectives and experiences to build a cohesive team culture.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear direction and guest-facing hospitality.
  • Proficient in computer and technical skills, including a working knowledge of Google Suite tools.
  • ServSafe Certification is preferred.
  • Experience managing in a Union Environment is a plus.
