About the Role
Meta seeks a highly motivated and experienced litigator to serve as Associate General Counsel, Civil Litigation. In this role, you will lead and manage a broad docket of complex civil disputes, with particular emphasis on privacy law and GDPR subject-matter in the context of collective redress, including class and representative-style actions, as well as multi-party and cross-border litigation. You will develop and execute litigation strategy across German courts and international forums, advise internal stakeholders on risk and coordinate closely with cross-functional partners in Legal, Compliance, Policy, and the business. The role requires demonstrated experience with German civil procedure and evidence rules, experience navigating EU-level collective redress frameworks, and a practical, business-oriented approach to resolving complex disputes in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and time-sensitive legal deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Owning end-to-end litigation strategy and execution for complex civil matters in Germany and across jurisdictions
- Expertise in privacy and GDPR-related litigation, leading on collective actions, including representative and model proceedings, and coordinating global strategy where cases span multiple jurisdictions
- Managing outside counsel to ensure efficient, high-quality work product, align litigation strategy with business objectives, and drive consistent positions in related matters
- Advising on pre-litigation dispute resolution processes, handling interim relief and injunction practice, and structuring effective settlement strategies
- Advising internal stakeholders on litigation risk and strategy and partnering with Product, Operations, Policy and Communications teams
- Overseeing matter budgets, reporting, and governance, ensuring timely updates and clear communication to leadership
- Monitoring legal developments in German and EU civil procedure and litigation regimes, and translating those developments into actionable guidance for the business

- Qualified to practice law in Germany, with approximately 8 years of post-qualification experience focused on complex civil litigation in Germany.
- Substantial cross-jurisdictional experience managing parallel or related proceedings in other EU or international forums.
- Fluent in German and English.
- Track record of effective written and oral advocacy.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in a technology-driven environment with shifting priorities and time-sensitive deadlines.
