About the Role

Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries like food, mining, and transport. This role requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate.

Responsibilities

Own a defined scope of the safety case end to end, from first draft to signed, including its upkeep afterward.
Define the scope of the safety argument, including conditions, exclusions, and hazards.
Judge evidence sufficiency, including operating experience, coverage, and evidence sources.
Work closely with functional safety, scenario validation, and fleet operations leads to obtain evidence.
Write the claim-argument-evidence map.
Convene reviews when work is ready and carry reviewer comments to documented resolution.
Serve as an independent reviewer on scopes not owned.
Act as a demanding customer of shared methods and tooling.
Use AI tooling for drafting, hazard analysis, coverage checking, and tracing.
Identify and report issues with methods, tooling, or AI-generated content.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in functional safety, autonomy behavior, and fleet operations, with depth in at least two areas.
Authored a structured safety argument (GSN or equivalent) on a real system and defended it.
Demonstrated hazard analysis ownership (HARA, FMEA, FTA, or equivalent).
Demonstrated scenario-based validation ownership.
Rigorous approach to data provenance, distinguishing measurements, estimates, and placeholders.
Willingness to speak up and clearly state when an argument is not ready and what is needed.
Standards fluency in ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), UL 4600, and SAE J3016.
Comfort with statistics of exposure, rare events, coverage, and surrogate safety measures.
Programming ability in Python or similar for data analysis and tooling.
Exceptional written precision for documentation that stands alone.
Focused, flexible, and generous disposition for teamwork and peer review.
