About the Role

This outpatient team is client-centered and provides clinical services based on recovery principles for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, predominantly schizophrenia and concurrent disorders. Using an inter-professional team approach, clients are provided with psychiatric and discipline specific assessment; linkages to community supports and services; clinical case coordination; community support; and individual counseling.

Responsibilities

Function as the primary worker for a number of clients, while being available to all clients and contributing in a discipline specific role.
Work in partnership with clients and the team to assist clients in achieving their highest level of functioning in the community.
Follow clients should they require hospitalization and contribute to the coordination of care and treatment with the inpatient care teams.
Formulate treatment plans and discharge plans.
Monitor client’s response to therapeutic intervention.
Communicate with the client’s social and community networks.
Assess new referrals to the program.
Work with clients from diverse populations.
Contribute to program development.
Provide education support and supervision to students.
Participate in the research activities of the program.
Possess sound knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, addiction issues and severe and persistent mental illness.
Have focused experience and training in concurrent disorders.
Support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
Possess a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy plus a Master’s degree in OT, Rehab Sciences or a related field).
Three years of experience working with individuals who have a serious mental illness.
Membership in either the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy and/or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy.
Holder of COTO’s pre-requisite Professional Liability Insurance.
Eligible for adjunct/status-only appointments with university faculties associated with Occupational Therapy that has affiliation agreements with CAMH.
Experience with physical functional mobility assessment and intervention.
Experience and training specific to working with concurrent disorders.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable development of a professional therapeutic relationship with clients and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team.
Solid understanding of recovery principles and their application to client service.
Knowledge of emergency psychiatry and crisis intervention principles and theory.
Ability to work with clients of diverse ethnoracial and cultural backgrounds.
Weekend and evening shifts will be required.
