About the Role
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the management of all activities related to operations and development of the facility, ensuring the safe, proper, and efficient operation and maintenance of the facility in accordance with company policies and standards.
Responsibilities
- Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of the operations, maintenance, and labor departments during daily operations and plant outages.
- Develops, maintains, and institutes operating and emergency procedures.
- Conducts daily inspections of plant machinery and equipment, and inspects ongoing activities for safety, environmental compliance, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Assigns daily work to the team based on priority, ensuring alignment and consistent communication amongst departments.
- Implements an effective training program to ensure employees meet job requirements and are prepared for their assigned positions.
- Assists the plant manager in developing operational and maintenance budgets and strategies.
- Manages and directs mechanical and E&I maintenance functions in accordance with company safety and maintenance standards.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving them.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Supervises all mechanical and E&I maintenance department activities, including preventative, predictive, corrective, emergency, contracted, and warranty service.
- Prepares, authorizes, and schedules completion of work orders for equipment repair and maintenance.
- Selects, supervises, trains, develops, and evaluates the performance of maintenance staff.
- Administers the predictive analysis program for all mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.
- Schedules and monitors the performance of all outside contractors to ensure effective, safe plant maintenance and operation.
- Oversees maintenance of all facility mobile equipment.
- Develops and maintains records of plant maintenance, including work orders, PM, lubrication planning, and planned/unplanned outages and inspections.
- Prepares work orders indicating malfunctions of instruments and authorizes work order requests.
- Requisitions new parts and instruments.
- Plans and supervises repair and maintenance during major outages.
- Utilizes and maintains CMMS in accordance with company policy.
- Recommends and maintains appropriate spare parts inventory.
- Oversees management of the Maintenance Shop.
- Inspects and tests shop equipment, including new and repaired instruments, to verify conformance to quality control standards.
- Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Provides guidance and direction to facility staff members.
- Maintains acceptable plant morale.
- Maintains plant cleanliness.
- Develops operational performance and productivity goals in conjunction with the Operations and Plant Manager via the annual business plan and continuously strives to meet or beat those goals.
- Manages the company's operations standards efficiently.
- Ensures customer satisfaction.
- Administers/enforces the lockout/tagout system.
- Sets productivity goals and is accountable for meeting those goals.
- Fosters and promotes a culture of teamwork between operational staff and all other plant staff.
- Prepares specifications for bid negotiation, contracts, and rate estimations for new business.
- Maintains staffing levels consistent with the approved budget.
- Conducts performance evaluations; hires, develops, and manages staff.
- Takes appropriate disciplinary action when necessary in accordance with company policy.
- Provides daily supervision over assigned staff and is responsible for preparing maintenance shift schedules.
- Prepares budget with the management team and is accountable for meeting operational goals.
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Responds appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Completes Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the prescribed timeframe.
- Ensures the facility and all personnel operate safely at all times and promotes a safety-first environment.
- Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards.
- Reads, understands, and implements lockout/tagout, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Thoroughly and promptly investigates any accidents or near misses in conjunction with the Environmental compliance manager and Health & Safety manager.
- Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, using intercom systems, two-way radios, or face-to-face.
- Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action.
- Troubleshoots equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas.
- Plans and conducts major outages, unscheduled and scheduled.
- Implements and directs effective PM program, lubrication plans, installation, troubleshooting, cleaning, inspecting, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment throughout the facility in a safe and professional manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University with a major or minor in an area related to the above responsibilities and 6 -- 8 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 - 5 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the operation, maintenance and control of a steam generating power plant.
- Proficient with Microsoft Software; Excel, Word, Office, etc.
- Experienced in using CMMS.
- Travel may be required, 0 -- 25%.
- Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.
- Noise in work environment.

- Lift 50 lbs.
- Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, and uneven surfaces.
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, corrected or otherwise.
- Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose operating at 125 psi line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire.
- Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units.
- Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways.
- Work in areas under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, the following with average fatigue: Negative pressure respirator, Positive pressure respirator, Self-contained breathing apparatus (steel or composite bottle), Hardhat, Approved safety shoes, Eye protection, Rubber suit and gloves, Chemical resistant suit, Heat resistant outerwear, Flame resistant outerwear, Approved hearing protection, Gloves, Safety harness.
