About the Role
Fred Victor is seeking an Overnight Housing Worker to provide support to chronically homeless tenants, helping them access and maintain affordable housing. This role involves encouraging tenant participation in goal development, community strategies, and utilizing a facilitative management approach. The position also includes front desk duties, crisis intervention, and case management services within a client-centered, harm reduction, and trauma-informed framework.
Responsibilities
- Work with chronically homeless tenants to access and maintain their affordable housing.
- Encourage tenant participation in goal development and community strategies.
- Utilize a facilitative management approach to help tenants reach goals and maintain housing.
- Provide a welcoming and professional Front Desk for Housing.
- Answer phones, field tenant questions, sign in guests, sign out keys, and take work orders.
- Perform crisis intervention and assist with tenant medication.
- Liaise with other workers and professionals.
- Utilize trauma-informed community development, facilitative management, and conflict resolution approaches.
- Provide intake, assessment, and case management services using a client-centered, strength-based, harm reduction approach.
- Maintain a caseload of 5-8 lower-need clients.
- Address housing-related issues such as behaviors, social isolation, mental health, substance use, and hygiene.
- Support tenants in problem-solving and accessing community resources.
- Identify, intervene in, and deescalate crisis situations.
- Work with tenants to develop crisis management skills.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of systems that cause and support homelessness, poverty, and discrimination.
- Respect for the realities of homelessness, poverty, and discrimination.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills for effective relationships with tenants, community, agencies, and staff.
- Experience working with people who are actively using substances from a harm reduction lens.
- Must utilize a trauma-informed, harm reduction, client-centered, anti-oppressive approach.
- Respect for and expertise working with tenants facing mental and physical health issues, active substance use, history of trauma, abuse, and social isolation.
- Experience working with tenants from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
- A Police Record Check is required by the final candidate prior to hiring.
