About the Role
As a Data Engineer at Crescent Electric Supply, you will be responsible for the architecture, development, and management of data pipelines, enabling reliable analytics and downstream business processes. You will build and maintain data layers, ensure a single source of truth, and provide indirect leadership to SQL Developers. You will partner with BI & Analytics Developers and business stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, governance, and structure for reporting and analytics.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines.
- Develop and maintain data models and schemas (Bronze/Silver/Gold medallion architecture).
- Lead the technical build-out of the data platform for Google Cloud migration.
- Leverage AI coding tools to optimize pipeline code and accelerate development.
- Engineer governance, validation, and error-handling into pipeline design.
- Monitor pipeline health and proactively resolve data integrity issues.
- Provide indirect leadership, coaching, and code-review guidance to SQL Developers.
- Partner with DBA, BI Developer(s), and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs.
- Maintain clear technical documentation of data flows, transformations, and architecture.
- Ensure data pipelines adhere to data handling, access control, and security standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5-7+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or database development.
- Experience supporting multi-entity or multi-ERP environments a plus.
- Strong hands-on expertise in SQL and relational database systems.
- Working knowledge of NoSQL a plus.
- Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Google Cloud, Azure, or AWS).
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, including medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) or similar layered architectures.
- Scripting/programming experience (Python or similar) for automation and data transformation a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems (Eclipse/Epicor) a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide less-experienced developers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Hands-on AI experience a plus.
- Willingness to learn and apply AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code).
