About the Role
This high-impact leadership position serves as the strategic anchor for the organization’s operations within the Japanese market. The role functions as the critical nexus between the Japan regional office and Global Finance, ensuring that local market nuances are integrated into the corporate financial framework. It provides rigorous financial oversight and maintains cross-functional operational continuity, safeguarding regional stability while driving global strategic alignment.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary financial contact for Japan, aligning local budgets with global Strategic Planning & Forecasting (SPF) processes.
- Manage resources with a high degree of precision, accounting for macroeconomic complexities and political volatility.
- Support the development of financial forecasts for Publishing/esports and Enterprise through the end-to-end execution of the annual SPF process.
- Perform code-level verification of all regional spending, including detailed variance analysis against Budget and Prior Year performance.
- Manage local payment and purchasing workflows in partnership with accounting.
- Prepare monthly Cash Flow Forecasts and oversee all intercompany transactions.
- Manage Accounts Payable related to cost allocations and royalties, and Accounts Receivable for sponsorship and ticket sales.
- Oversee online banking platforms (Citi Bank, SMBC, and Asia Extended Service/AES) and manage corporate card providers.
- Manage partnerships with external experts for Transfer Pricing, Cost Plus verification, CbC, Master, and Local File documentation.
- Provide advisory on contract-related tax matters, including withholding tax, consumption tax, and reverse charges.
- Coordinate tax treaty applications and respond to tax office inquiries.
- Oversee critical "Non-Fin" support to ensure compliance with Japanese statutory requirements and business continuity.
- Serve as the primary internal Point of Contact for Prepaid Payment Instruments under the Payment Services Act (PSA), including escrow-related responsibilities.
- Monitor monetization modifications and ensure statutory disclosures required by the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions are accurately reflected.
- Provide financial oversight for HR functions, including finalization of year-end statutory statements, management of social insurance, and calculation of corporate tax deductions.
- Manage the organization's corporate profile in partnership with the workplace experience team, including filing legal materials for Country Manager changes and office relocations.
- Manage the annual insurance portfolio, including Accident Insurance, Fire, Liability, and Travel Insurance.
- Support the implementation of regulatory-compliant payment methods through local partnerships.
- Manage high-stakes relationships with external tax, legal, and audit partners.
- Serve as the central point of synchronization for regional budget owners and global finance leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Requirements
- Native-level Japanese and fluent English are required.
- Proven expertise in Strategic FP&A and Management Accounting.
- Solid foundation in Corporate Tax (consumption, withholding, transfer pricing), Treasury management, and the coordination of tax treaties.
- Strong familiarity with the Japanese Payment Services Act (including escrow/deposit requirements) and the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions.
- Understanding of social insurance, labor matters, and year-end statutory reporting.
- Proven ability to lead high-value relationships with external counsel (TMI Associates) and professional service firms (PwC, Vistra, Grant Thornton).
- High agility in navigating a complex environment involving Legal, HR, IT, Esports, and Publishing teams.
