About the Role
Educational Alliance seeks an experienced full-time Building Engineer-Facilities Manager to maintain and operate building systems, ensuring safe and efficient facility performance at the 14th Street Y. This role involves supervising staff and overseeing facility maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, heating/boilers, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety.
- Coordinate and oversee repairs, maintenance work, and vendor activities.
- Manage contractors and ensure timely, high-quality completion of work.
- Monitor and maintain building security systems and access control.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records.
- Assist with maintenance budgeting, tracking, and cost-control processes.
- Manage capital project planning for building systems and future integrations with new BMS systems.
- Oversee general maintenance and cleaning of the building, acting as a mentor and teacher.
- Manage and assist with work orders from program staff, with excellent communication, delegation, and time management.
Requirements
- Associates or Bachelors Degree required.
- 5+ years’ experience at a director level overseeing building engineering, maintenance, and construction operations required.
- S-95 certification (or obtain within one month of hire date).
- Fire Safety Director certificate (or obtain within 9 months of hire date).
- EPA Universal Refrigerant License preferred.
- Locksmithing license (or experience) strongly preferred.
- Supervision experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, heating, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems.
- In-depth and current knowledge of DOB, FDNY and DOH code requirements.
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems.
- Experience with capital projects and construction projects.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex building projects from initial planning and development through implementation, completion, and evaluation.
- Willingness to share knowledge and teach the Superintendent and others on the Facilities team.
