About the Role

Oyster is hiring a content marketing lead to define the company-wide editorial narrative, focusing on the future of work, executive thought leadership, and original research. This role operates as an AI-first functional lead, leveraging AI systems for research, content generation, and quality assurance, rather than managing direct reports. The goal is to set the standard for an AI-native content function with significant scope and impact.

Responsibilities

  • Define Oyster’s long-term editorial and category strategy across multiple departments.
  • Establish consistent positions, evidence standards, and language across the business.
  • Own a multi-year editorial roadmap and a portfolio of flagship research and thought-leadership initiatives.
  • Act as the final quality control for voice, accuracy, evidence, and taste in all content.
  • Architect and govern reusable AI content systems for research, brand voice, fact-checking, and more.
  • Define rules for AI and human collaboration in content creation.
  • Establish and implement content standards across Marketing and partner teams.
  • Measure and evolve AI content systems based on throughput, cycle time, cost, quality, and business impact.
  • Set the operating model for executive publishing and advise leaders on public arguments.
  • Develop a proprietary data-driven original research program.
  • Mobilize various channels (newsletter, podcast, events, PR, etc.) around shared narratives.
  • Connect editorial decisions to company growth, customer trust, and pipeline.
  • Build reporting to support executive and team investment decisions.
  • Identify emerging market shifts and recommend company responses.
  • Set direction for stakeholders, freelancers, agencies, and subject-matter experts without formal authority.
  • Create decision rights, operating rhythms, and shared standards for consistent execution.
  • Define the long-term roadmap and future organizational shape of the content capability.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in content, editorial, or brand journalism, with senior ownership of a brand narrative or thought leadership program at a B2B technology company.
  • Demonstrated success in setting a company or category narrative that influenced decisions and gained external authority.
  • A portfolio of work that achieved recognition through citations, quotations, debate, or organic sharing.
  • A demonstrated AI-first practice beyond drafting, including system design, evaluation, QA, governance, and adoption.
  • Exceptional English-language editorial judgment, writing, editing, sourcing, and voice control.
  • Ability to translate proprietary data and complex research into clear, defensible arguments with business relevance.
  • Experience making high-leverage trade-offs and setting direction across executives and multiple functions without formal authority.
  • Proven ability to build scalable mechanisms, operating standards, and roadmaps that enable others.
  • Genuine motivation to operate as a high-autonomy individual contributor with no direct reports and company-critical scope.
  • Reliable home internet connection.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
