About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned electrical engineer to lead the electronics design for our robots, including motor controllers, power distribution, compute, camera, battery management, and sensing boards. This role involves taking designs from concept through production, hands-on lab work, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable hardware.
Responsibilities
- Own the design and validation of PCBAs for critical robot subsystems from concept through production release.
- Drive key architecture and component decisions, and advise hardware leadership on technical strategy.
- Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, test planning, and root-cause debugging.
- Lead design reviews and manage the component library, release process, and design checklists.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for PCB fabrication and assembly vendors, driving DFM/DFA feedback and supporting production issues.
- Mentor and advise associate and mid-level engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, and testing PCBAs, including production release.
- Proficiency in Altium Designer or similar EDA tools for schematic capture and multi-layer layout.
- Experience with debugging hardware problems using scopes, logic/protocol analyzers, and bench instruments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation, trade studies, and design reviews.
- Ability to prioritize simplicity, reliability, and velocity.

- Ability to excel in dynamic and ambitious environments with a diverse group of individuals.

- Power electronics (motor drivers, inverter stages, switch-mode supplies, power sequencing and protection)
- Digital electronics (MCUs, FPGAs, Ethernet, USB, SPI/I2C/UART, signal-integrity fundamentals)
- Analog electronics (op-amps, filters, ADC/DAC signal chains, precision sensing)
- Constraint-driven routing for high-speed and high-current designs
- High-speed design (PCIe Gen1–5, USB3/4, MIPI, GMSL, 10G Ethernet)
- High-current power delivery for compute modules
- Signal and power integrity (impedance control, crosstalk, PDN) and mitigation techniques
- Camera electronics and image sensor integration (MIPI, GMSL, sensor power and clocking)
- Dense or space-constrained boards (HDI, flex, rigid-flex) and fabrication trade-offs
- Motor electromagnetic design and motor control (FOC, current sensing, encoder interfaces)
- Control systems for robotic manipulation or locomotion
- Embedded programming of DSPs, MCUs, and FPGAs
- LTspice and Python for simulation, analysis, and test automation
- EMC/EMI design and regulatory compliance testing (CE/UL, IEC 61000 series)
- Real-time industrial fieldbuses (EtherCAT, CAN/CANopen, EtherNet/IP)
- Safety-rated electronics to ISO 13849 or IEC 61508 (redundant architectures, STO, safety fieldbus)
- Product lifecycle from prototype through NPI to volume manufacturing (DFM/DFT, test fixtures, yield improvement)
