About the Role
We are seeking a senior Security Engineer to establish and manage Apollo Research's security program from the ground up. As the first dedicated security hire, you will be responsible for maintaining the trust of our AI lab partners and supporting our research mission. This role reports directly to the CEO and is part of the engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Build and own Apollo's security program, including the security roadmap, risk assessments, and program evolution.
- Serve as the primary security point of contact for partner security teams, build relationships with CISOs, and document Apollo's security practices.
- Define security principles and AppSec strategy for the engineering team, creating streamlined secure development pathways.
- Establish guidelines for the use of AI tools, agents, and integrations, balancing security with research needs.
- Manage the security tooling stack, including EDR/MDR, endpoint management, email protection, and identity management, with a focus on automation.
- Lead compliance and certification efforts (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2) to meet partner requirements.
- Oversee IT administration, including Google Workspace management, access policies, and secure onboarding/offboarding processes.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in security engineering, security operations, or a related technical security role.
- Proven track record of building buy-in for security practices and earning trust from non-security personnel.
- Experience building or significantly maturing a security program.
- Familiarity with cloud security, including AWS IAM, networking, and infrastructure review.
- Experience with compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
- Hands-on experience with endpoint management tools (e.g., Kandji, Jamf) and identity/access management.
- Experience administering Google Workspace or equivalent systems.
- Interest in Apollo's mission of AI safety.
