About the Role
The Personal Trainer provides one-on-one specialized training and may assist in program coverage for Individual Conditioning, including fitness assessments, small group program delivery, individual program design, and room orientations. The role ensures members have a positive experience in a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver Personal Training sessions in small group and one-on-one format consistent with YMCA standards, mission, values, goals, and practices.
- Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and monitored for safe and effective member and volunteer participation.
- Prepare, set up, and clean program equipment and rooms, reporting any necessary repairs to the supervisor.
- Organize and administer a case management approach to manage participant relationships and ensure their comfort and success in achieving personal health goals.
- Utilize available YMCA systems and technologies to deliver Personal Training and track required information.
- Provide reports and additional information to the supervisor upon request.
- Track client attendance.
- Manage client and potential client communication in a timely and professional manner, adhering to YMCA policies and procedures.
- Build relationships with members and share the YMCA story, educating members and guests on the YMCA as a Charity.
- Ensure required qualifications and certifications are current at all times.
- Be available for the minimum required commitment of hours as determined by the supervisor based on centre needs.
- Actively participate in scheduled training, meetings, and special events.
- Assist and encourage program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at the location in collaboration with members, volunteers, and staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members.
Requirements
- Certified Personal Trainer and/or YMCA Personal Training Certification (or equivalent).
- Diploma in Health Education or equivalent is an asset.
- Previous experience in developing individual fitness programs and coaching individuals to achieve results.
- Certified Fitness Consultant (CFC) is an asset.
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR required.
- Ability to instruct various group fitness classes is an asset.
- Sales and/or customer service experience, preferably in a membership/client-based environment is an asset.
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging.
- Ability to encourage and motivate members and volunteers, acknowledge and appreciate achievements and contributions.
- Flexibility regarding work schedules, including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Commitment to the YMCA’s Mission, Vision and Values.
- Focus on the health, safety, and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs, including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.

- Job offers are contingent on the successful completion of a Police Records Check.
- A Vulnerable Police Records Check is required within the first four months and every three years thereafter.
