About the Role
Hydro One is seeking a technology project leader to manage complex technology projects throughout their full lifecycle. This role involves influencing stakeholders, providing technical expertise, and directing staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful project execution, schedule adherence, and cost control.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with line of business stakeholders to influence and address their use of technology to improve processes.
- Take an active role in the annual work program of complex technology projects over the full project life-cycle.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and technical expertise in project management.
- Direct staff, contractors, and vendor personnel in project execution.
- Monitor project activities, achievements, schedules, and costs.
- Collaborate with diverse groups on annual program development and delivery, including investment and business plans.
- Oversee the evolution of the business through new technology deployment.
- Integrate diverse technology change requests relative to strategies and objectives.
- Evaluate options and synthesize specifications and plans for technology platform enhancements.
- Coordinate stakeholders to create consensus on requirements for business applications.
- Facilitate documentation of business requirements.
- Ensure projects align with business strategies and account for sustainment impacts.
- Liaise with external parties like utilities, regulatory bodies, vendors, and stakeholders for project delivery.
- Influence external parties to adopt suitable courses of action for the Company.
- Consult with internal and external specialists for data exchange and strategy integration.
- Make progress reports to supervisors and stakeholders.
- Manage staff engaged in the development and implementation of complex projects.
- Plan, schedule, assign work, and check work for quality, accuracy, and productivity.
- Select optimal courses of action and make recommendations to supervisors.
- Manage staffing needs, interview processes, staff development, and HR/Corporate policy adherence.
- Administer department budgets.
- Monitor work progress and quality, conduct performance reviews, and provide direction.
- Develop succession plans and provide staff development.
- Manage multiple small to mid-size projects and oversee programs implemented by others.
- Support the creation and implementation of Project Management best practices.
- Facilitate the application of standards, methodologies, and architectures.
- Lead and coordinate the review and evaluation of proposals.
- Negotiate contracts and contract changes with external stakeholders.
- Manage and maintain project plans, develop action plans for issues, and track risk mitigation.
- Review project documentation for integrity, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Report on project status and metrics, including progress, earned value, and baseline/forecast/actual dates, costs, and scope.
- Create and maintain a project library and coordinate project documentation filing.
- Manage and motivate staff and contractors to deliver project results within budget and schedule.
- Negotiate and influence vendor and service provider behavior.
- Communicate Hydro One strategies and direction to staff, contractors, and vendors.
- Build team alignment among staff, contractors, and vendor personnel.
- Translate technical options into business objectives.
- Resolve technical, business, and personnel issues, escalating unresolved issues.
- Set expectations, priorities, and context for subordinates.
- Work with subordinates to establish policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate policies.
- Establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates to solicit feedback and identify improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to staffing strategy development for the Operations Technology Department.
- Develop and mentor subordinates and implement succession strategies.
- Assess staff capability for current and future work.
- Conduct staff performance reviews.
- Provide staff with knowledge, skills, information, procedures, and equipment for safety and health.
- Provide a work environment and facilities that minimize health and safety incidents.
- Provide a work environment that supports diversity and is free from harassment.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience managing and delivering technology projects over the full project life-cycle.
- Strong knowledge and experience with application software packages, network/telecommunication, and hardware solutions.
- Strong knowledge and experience with the unique aspects of critical real-time applications.
- Experience with business planning and budgeting.
- Experience with work program development and prioritization.
- Experience with business case approval processes.
- Experience with policy development.
- Knowledge of business writing for preparation of business planning documents, presentations, business case approval documents, and briefing materials.
