About the Role

The BernCo Clean Community Operator executes various clean-up, trails, roadway right-of-way and median maintenance projects within the county. This role is responsible for cleaning illegal dumping sites, preparing and maintaining records of work performed, prioritizing daily work activities and special clean-ups, and all maintenance jobs as directed. The position also involves safety inspections and operating and maintaining vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

Performs labor-intensive job duties in the care for established landscaping, including mowing, trimming, chipping, watering, digging, drip system repair, sprinkler repair, fence repair, maintenance of existing landscapes, planting, pruning, weeding, trash removal, snow removal and general upkeep of landscaped medians, trails within roadway landscaping and illegal dumping.
Maintains and cleans trails, roadway right-of-way, medians, and illegal dump sites within the county.
Responds to 311 complaints.
Issues work orders and prioritizes daily work activities.
Operates on-and-off road vehicles such as Skidsteer, Loader, and attachments.
Performs daily safety inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment.
Reports and/or documents found safety issues in accordance with departmental requirements.
Operates snow removal equipment.
Operates vehicles under adverse weather conditions and work schedules other than normal hours.
Instructs service workers in the proper use and operation of personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment, hand tools, weed eaters, power tools, and spray equipment.
Responds during a County declared emergency.
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED.
Two (2) years of experience in landscaping and/or landscaping equipment.
Two (2) years of experience performing pre-use safety inspections and daily equipment maintenance.
Two (2) years of experience in the use, care and operation of various types of large equipment such as transport of various equipment utilizing a truck and trailer, and spray equipment varying in size.
Two (2) years of experience in towing and securing trailers.
Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.
Must have a valid New Mexico Class B, NM Commercial Driver's License and maintain while employed.
Must possess Traffic Control Supervisor certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
Must have the ability to operate small power tools, hand tools and landscaping maintenance equipment.
Must have knowledge of irrigation systems maintenance, testing and repair.
Must have the ability to understand and fully execute both oral and written instructions in English.
Must be able to perform work assignments with minimal supervision.
Must be able to apply knowledge of basic mathematics in making measurements and calculations.
Must be able to apply knowledge of tools, machines, materials, and methods used in the performance of duties.
Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks.
Must be able to think clearly and make decisions.
Must be able to lift to an estimated 50 pounds.
Must be able to utilize hoists and dollies to move heavy equipment and supplies, weighing up to approximately 150 pounds.
Must be able to push and pull on an occasional basis from 25 to 50 pounds.
Must be able to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding.
Must be able to maintain balance while climbing and standing on ladder or scaffold.
Must be able to crawl, crouch, or work in a prone or supine position for short periods.
Must be able to bend at the waist and twist/rotate waist on a frequent basis.
Must be able to work with arms extended or bent up to a total of 8 hours per day.
Must be able to use hands and fingers to grasp/manipulate equipment and materials in a bilaterally coordinated manner.
Must be able to use finger dexterity in the performance of repair and maintenance.
Must be able to coordinate use of hands and eyes.
Must have adequate senses of smell, hearing, and tactile sense.
Must be able to react quickly while performing duties to avoid accidents.
Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
Adherence to all County safety guidelines.
Complete all FEMA training(s) assigned to this position.
Complete required supervisor training, if applicable.
