About the Role
This position supports the mission and work of the Y by cleaning and maintaining assigned areas and/or facilities, ensuring the well-being of participants in line with YMCA guidelines and policies.
Responsibilities
- Models the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
- Maintains physical presence and remains alert while on duty.
- Reviews emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately.
- Performs general cleaning and janitorial duties in common areas.
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance, such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes.
- Assists in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, fitness areas, and child care rooms.
- Performs limited grounds maintenance, such as mowing lawns and cleaning snow from sidewalks.
- Ensures heating and cooling systems are operational.
- Maintains a neat and orderly janitors’ room and ensures supplies are stocked.
- Washes windows.
- Assists in examining facilities for safety hazards and reports deficiencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Follows and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Acts as an ambassador of YMCA programs, focusing on department offerings and member engagement.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available.
- Cleans and stores equipment per branch procedures.
- Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
- Steps up to contribute to the overall success of the YMCA, even if outside of the position description.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must pass a background check.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of cleaning solutions.
- Detail-oriented and thorough.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and operate maintenance tools.
- Ability to keep the facility clean and orderly.
- Ability to interact professionally, politely, and courteously with staff, members, participants, and visitors.
- Must complete annual safety, combating sexual-harassment, and child abuse prevention trainings.
- Must have current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must take required safety trainings within the first 30 days of employment.
- Prolonged periods standing.
- Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
