About the Role
Citizens Financial Group, Inc. (CFG) seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design of observability solutions, evaluate emerging products, and guide technical teams in implementing architecture blueprints.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design of observability solutions encompassing hosting infrastructure, applications, network, and databases.
- Evaluate emerging products through research and proof of concepts, providing strategic adoption recommendations.
- Guide solution architects and technical teams in implementing architecture blueprints and roadmaps.
- Architect and lead engineering teams to implement Observability pipelines and unified observability solutions using commercial and open-source tools, products, and in-house applications/services.
- Architect and implement AIOps-based solutions to reduce Mean Time To Resolve (MTTR) and Mean Time To Detect (MTTD), thereby avoiding brand impact from system outages.
- Plan and execute highly parallel distributed object storage transformations and migrations.
- Lead vendor governance and performance management, ensuring external technology partners deliver scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Lead collaborative projects with small software engineering teams.
- Develop automation, processes, and tools to make services simpler and more robust.
- Advise management on service onboarding strategies and execution.
- Serve as a key liaison between stakeholders, including executive leadership, Cloud Engineering, SRE teams, and platform teams.
- Build and lead high-performing, multicultural teams across geographies, fostering collaboration and inclusive leadership.
- Lead and manage a team of professionals, providing direction, support, and performance feedback.
- Coach and manage team members, supporting career development and skill-building.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Engineering, or related field and 7 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience as Principal Software Engineer, Application Architect, Technical Architect, Consultant, Computer System Engineer, or a related position developing and designing software solutions.
- 7 years of experience implementing mainframe modernization initiatives using distributed architectures tailored for large scale and high performance.
- 7 years of experience conceiving and crafting core banking solutions for financial institutions.
- 7 years of experience utilizing Microservices Architecture for loosely coupled, independently deployable services, including related patterns CQRS, Event Sourcing, and Domain Driven Design (DDD) for building scalable and resilient systems.
- 7 years of experience working with container technologies, including Docker, and container orchestration platforms, including Kubernetes, openshift and Rancher.
- 7 years of experience designing and implementing distributed architectures spanning multiple middleware layers.
- 7 years of experience utilizing advanced analytics, profiling and monitoring tools, including Java Mission Control(JMC), Java Flight Recorder(JFR), JProfiler, and VisualVM to monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot application performance.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, including Next-gen technology transformation, using ROSA (Redhat Openshift Service on AWS), EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) and AWS platform & services.
- Experience utilizing emerging programming languages and frameworks, including Java, Springboot, JAX-RS, Jersey, Spring SOAP, Apache Camel, Spring Integration, Spring batch, Spring transaction, Spring MVC, and Spring WebFlux.
- Experience designing and implementing Machine Learning engines based on machine learning algorithms K-Means and T-Digest to identify and report data outliers.
